Must-have Apps for Every NASCAR Fan

You’re off to the races – or wish you were – and want to stay connected to the excitement. Not too long ago, that meant depending on radio or television, but not so now. Mobile devices are a major part of our lives, and everyone from the drivers and the crew to the fans and media are staying in touch in real-time. The following apps are for NASCAR lovers only:

NASCAR Mobile

This is the official app from NASCAR. It is available for iOS, Android and Windows. The free version provides guided tours of the track, driver information, info about previous races and the current schedule of races. Sign up for the Raceview premium subscription to get the added thrill of 3D virtual races.

Navigation Help

This is likely a no-brainer, but if you’re still using a paper map and your road trip sidekick to find your way to the racetrack, hotel or restaurant, you’re working too hard. Google Maps is the most popular app for figuring out where you are, but NASCAR fans should check out Waze as an alternative. Waze has a social side that enables you to get real-time warnings of speed traps and construction delays. NASCAR is a community, and so is this app.

Get Cheap Lodging

Here’s a trick you may not know about: Download both the Hotels.com app and the Priceline.com app. Use Hotels.com to check best available rates, and armed with that information, go to Priceline and enter a bid comfortably below the lowest publicized offer on a property you like. It’s a bit like fishing: you may get a bite and you may not…but you will never know if you don’t try. The worst that can happen is you find out about the options and land a discounted room via Hotels.com.

Find Local Campgrounds

NASCAR lovers tend to also be fans of fifth wheels, motor homes and camping in general. Tent Camping to RV Parks is an iOS app that can help you find safe places to tent camp or park your RV. Android aficionados can get RV Parky and join in the fun of a like-minded camping community. Use the trip planner function to lay out the season’s fun.

Get Breaking News

For keeping up with NASCAR news, download the NASCAR Update application. You can get it from the Google play store, and it is absolutely free (though it is for Android users only). Stay up on what’s happening in the world of NASCAR.

Read All About It

This is certainly not an exhaustive list, but it can help get you going. New applications come and go, and mobile devices are getting better all the time. Be careful of buggy applications that are really for spamming you with ads, not helping you enjoy the race. It is always good to do a search on “[name of application] reviews” and/or read the built-in reviews at the app store before you commit to install any application.
