This past Tuesday, Athenian Motorsports driver, John Wes Townley was given medical clearance to return to NASCAR and ARCA Competition and will take part in the Camping World Truck Series and ARCA races at Pocono Raceway this weekend.

For the past four weeks, Townley has received treatment for mild concussion-like symptoms following a couple of collisions with GMS Racing’s Spencer Gallagher at Gateway Motorsports Park in June.  The second crash is what ended the night for both drivers and ignited an on-the-track confrontation and wrestling match. Gallagher later apologized for his part in the incident.

Over the last four weeks, three drivers have stepped into Townley’s seat.

“I’d like to thank Parker Kligerman, Cole Custer and Brady Boswell for filling in for me,” Townley said. “I feel great and I’m looking forward to racing at Pocono this week.”

Doing something for the first time in his ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards career Friday, Myatt Snider returns to a track he already competed at in the 2.5-mile Pocono Raceway, testing and racing there in June driving the No. 22 Louisiana Hot Sauce Ford for Cunningham Motorsports.

He led 33 laps and finished ninth while being on a different pit strategy shuffling the finishing order of the General Tire #AnywhereIsPossible200. June’s event also marked the first time composite-bodied style cars ran a superspeedway race, with their drivers sweeping the top-six spots. Continue reading

For the first time in his 23-year NASCAR Sprint Cup Series career, Jeff Gordon drove a different number than his iconic No. 24 last Sunday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Gordon came out of retirement and filled in for an ailing Dale Earnhardt Jr. and wheeled the No. 88 Axalta Chevrolet to a 13th-place finish in the 400-mile race. He hadn’t raced since last November and got the call from Rick Hendrick to sub for the second-generation driver who was dealing with concussion-like symptoms.

Does this change Jeff Gordon’s legendary presence in NASCAR’s top-series?

Not one bit. Continue reading
