The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series will experience a milestone this weekend at Sonoma Raceway when Alon Day, a 25 year-old native of Tel Aviv, will become the first driver from Israel to ever compete in NASCAR’s top series. Day is Israel’s 2016 ‘Athlete of the Year,”  and will race the No. 23 for BK Racing in the Toyota SaveMart 350.

“I’m very excited to make my debut in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series next week in Sonoma,” said Day.  “Being the first Israeli who is going to race in NASCAR’s highest Series is a dream come true.  I must thank BK Racing, EarthWater Limited, as well as Hall of Famer Franco Harris, Super Bakery, and Silversport for giving me this awesome opportunity.”

Day is an accomplished NASCAR Euro Series driver and the first stock car driver from outside of North America selected for the NASCAR Next program, featuring the future stars of the sport.

This season, Day is racing the NASCAR Euro Series competing for the championship and will race the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series again at Watkins Glen along with select races in the XFINITY and Camping World Truck Series. He was recently crowned the ‘King of Brands Hatch,’ after winning the NASCAR Whelen Euro event in England.

BK Racing is embracing Alon Day and looking forward to bringing his talent into Cup Series this weekend.

“I like giving new drivers an opportunity, and Alon is a great road course driver,” said Team Owner, Ron Devine. “He has been successful in other series around the world and deserves a shot in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.”

The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series’ Toyota SaveMart 350 is at 3 pm ET on Sunday, June 25th at Sonoma Raceway with coverage available on FOX Sports 1 at 2 pm ET.
