With nearly two months since Cunningham Motorsports’ two rookies hit the track at Daytona International Speedway in February, the team is ready to hit the track for their second race of the ARCA Racing Series season at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway. In February Chase Briscoe finished fourth and Kevin Thomas, Jr. (KTJ) grabbed seventh in their first outing of the year at Daytona.  After their second ‘off season,’ the drivers are ready to get back in the swing of race season this weekend.

Briscoe looks forward to getting back to the track he considers the beginning of his journey with the Cunningham organization.

“It’s neat for me to come back to Nashville.  This is where co-owners, Briggs Cunningham and Kerry Scherer, gave me my shot last year at a test.  I have been absolutely blessed with this amazing opportunity with the entire organization.  All of the team members put so much hard work into these cars,” said Briscoe.

Pleased with the speed that they brought to their Nashville test last week both Briscoe and KTJ are now ready for some short track racing.  Briscoe ran a time just shy of Kyle Weatherman’s blistering pole run last year in the Cunningham Motorsports No. 22.  Briscoe’s teammate, KTJ, was within two tenths of a second during the test.

Thomas, Jr. commented, “We had good speed on long runs during the Nashville test.  Since it has been a few weeks since Daytona, we tested at Motor Mile and Nashville to try to stay fresh.  I am looking forward to doing some short track racing at Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville and then Salem Speedway.”

Crew chiefs, Paul Andrews (No. 22 of KTJ) and Chad Bryant (No. 77 of Briscoe) are prepping at the shop for the next three race, as the intensity for the season picks up.  Those three races include two short tracks, Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway and Salem Speedway, then Talladega Superspeedway.

Anticipating the 0.596-mile track in Nashville, TN, Briscoe said, “I am excited to finally get this race season underway.  I felt like I picked up quite a few things when we tested our No. 77 Ford Fusion that should help in the race.  The test will definitely speed up my learning curve.”

Briscoe is making his fourth ARCA Series start, while KTJ takes his second ARCA green flag.

The one day Music City 200 begins with practice from 1:15-2:00 pm ET and 2:45-3:30 pm ET on Saturday, April 9th.  Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Menards follows at 5:15 pm ET and fans can meet the drivers during an autograph session at 6:30 pm ET.  The 200 lap race takes the green flag at 9:00 pm ET at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway.
