Starting his racing career in 2007, Garrett Smithley raced Bandoleros at Atlanta Motor Speedway earning Rookie of the Year honors and several championship series wins. He then advance to the US Legend Car Series where he showcased his talent at tracks throughout the southeast, gaining fans, victories and more championships. 

With his tremendous success, Smithley received an invitation to join the Petty Instructors organization as a driving instructor in 2011 and continues as a lead instructor even now.

Recognizing Smithley’s talent during a testing session at Daytona with Keselowski Racing, Daytona 500 champion, Derrike Cope gave him the chance to make his stock car racing debut in four ARCA Racing Series events in 2013 and 14. Smithley was back in his ARCA car for the first race of the 2015 season at Daytona International Speedway.

Smithley took another step in his career with his first start in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series at his home track, Atlanta Motor Speedway, the same year with Mittler Brothers Racing. He finished with a solid 18th-place and without a scratch on his truck, leading to more Truck Series races at Pocono and Michigan – again with strong results.

What many may not know about Garrett Smithley is that he has extensive experience in theater, singing and musical theater, giving him a solid foundation to excel in public speaking and marketing.  His fans enjoy not only his talent on the track, but with social media, press interviews and public appearances, as he promotes his personal brand and his many sponsors. Smithley’s positive attitude and infectious smile make him an approachable fan-favorite.

Smithley continues gaining valuable experience as an instructor at Richard Petty Driving Experience and now races the No. 0 car in the NASCAR XFINITY Series during his rookie season with JD Motorsports with his eye on competing at NASCAR’s highest level – the Sprint Cup Series.
