A few short weeks ago, Patrick Staropoli and his Star Racing team finally celebrated winning the AutoNation Cure Bowl at Showtime Speedway in St Petersburg, Florida after his previous attempts at the bullring left him running out of gas, rained out and with an accident just five laps before the checkered flag. Last November, Staropoli finished runner-up at the track’s 50-lap season finale.

“It was awesome to be able to win in our own equipment with my family and friends here,” Staropoli said. “This car is almost 12 years old and we do not get many opportunities to race nowadays… so to come out here and compete with these guys and girls who are on top of their game, really means a lot to me. Huge thanks to Rothe’s Auto Repair, Paul’s Transmissions, AutoNation, and HMS Motorsport for all of their support.”

Knowing how to deal with challenging situations and powering toward victory is part of Staropoli’s DNA, both on and off the track.

Staropoli gained notoriety in August 2013 when he won the first PEAK Stock Car Dream Challenge and a place with Michael Waltrip Racing, from among over 700 entrants. He went on to win in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West with a Bill McAnally Racing prepared car at Irwindale Speedway while out running his fellow competitor Michael Waltrip, who came out of retirement to race the event.

Now, after graduating from Harvard and years of racing while attending Medical School, the South Florida native and driver of the late-model No. 97 is graduating on May 10th from the University of Miami.

So what’s ahead for Staropoli, the racer, once he officially becomes a doctor?
