Dr. Patrick Staropoli is our guest on Fan4Racing NASCAR & Race Talk, Monday, March 19, 2018, at 9 pm ET. Call 929-477-1790 or tweet @Fan4RacingSite with any questions or comments during our LIVE broadcast.

As a resident physician at Adventura Hospital in Florida, Dr. Patrick Staropoli is not your typical Super Late Model competitor. He’s not only a graduate from the University of Miami, Dr. Staropoli is also a member of Harvard’s Class of 2012. And a couple of weeks ago, he started his first race of the 2018 racing season by celebrating with his Super Late Model, Jim McCoy Motorsports team at Citrus County Speedway in Florida.

“It’s the kind of night you dream of having when you strap into one of these cars,” Dr. Staropoli said in Victory Lane after winning the race.

During the week, Dr. Staropoli focuses on continuing his education as a resident physician in ophthalmology. But when the opportunity comes along, he’s ‘one of the guys’ ready, able and willing to jump behind the wheel of his No. 64 Jim McCoy Motorsports Super Late Model to compete on the track.

Preceding Dr. Staropoli’s victory at Citrus County he took part in a spirited four-car battle for third-place with Wayne Anderson, Keith Roggen, and Jesse Dutilly as all were fighting hard to chase the leaders George Gorham Jr and Ricky Anderson. Anderson took the third-place spot for a while, but it was Dr. Staropoli who would eventually prevail.

After a caution on the 15th lap, Dr. Staropoli was able to pass Anderson, then put the pressure on Gorham for the lead on the 18th lap. With a one-lap battle, Dr. Staropoli then took the lead for the rest of the 50-lap event.

During the offseason, Dr. Staropoli’s team says they worked hard to build on their 2017 momentum. That hard work paid off for the Jim McCoy Motorsports team in their first outing of the 2018 season.

Since teaming up with his No. 64 team, they have earned five top-five finishes with his latest victory in just six races all while Dr. Staropoli is simultaneously juggling his first year of medical residency.

Fans will want to keep their eye on Dr. Staropoli throughout the rest of the 2018 season.
