After the K&N Pro Series East won the first East meets West clash at Iowa Speedway in July, the K&N Pro Series West drivers are anxious to take over bragging rights this weekend in their second combo event of the season in the Monaco Gateway Classic at Gateway Motorsports Park on Friday night.

Tyler Ankrum and Derek Thorn are the respective East and West points leaders heading into the weekend. And to make it interesting this is both series’ first event at the Madison, IL 1.25-mile paved oval. Ankrum won at the first combo event at Iowa last month.

Ankrum has dominated the K&N Pro Series East by winning four of their 11 races, including three of the last four and he now holds a 45-point lead over his DGR Crosley teammate Tyler Dippel. There are only two races left to seal the deal after Gateway, so both drivers are looking to improve their title chances on Friday night.

Other East competitors looking to mix it up on Friday include third-place Ronnie Bassett Jr and his brother Dillon Bassett in eighth place. Rev Racing has three drivers in the top-ten including Ruben Garcia Jr (fourth), Ryan Vargas (sixth), and Chase Cabre (seventh).  MDM Motorsports driver Anthony Alfredo is fifth in the point standings.

“After several weeks off I am excited to get back to the track,” says Chase Cabre, who will help with the NASCAR Weekend Preview of the Gateway Classic on Fan4Racing Radio. “We are really looking forward to another K&N East vs West match up.  It expands the field and makes for an exciting race for both the drivers and fans.”

In the West, Derek Thorn has an 18 point advantage over his Bob Bruncati Sunrise Ford Racing teammate Ryan Partridge.  After a penalty assessed to Partridge after the Iowa race, he is anxious to narrow the gap with five races left on their schedule.

Three Bill McAnally Racing drivers are looking to shake it up this weekend with Cole Rouse, Derek Kraus, and Hailie Deegan all respectively third, fourth, and fifth in the point standings. Kody Vanderwal (sixth) with one win this season and Trevor Huddleston (seventh) also have their sights set on making waves at Gateway.

The Monaco Gateway Classic starts Friday, August 24th at 9:15 pm ET. Fans can follow the action at NASCAR Hometracks race central throughout the day including practice sessions at 10:15 am and 1:30 pm with qualifying at 5:30 pm (all Central Time).

The NBCSN broadcast of the Monaco Gateway Classic is on Thursday, August 30th at 6 pm ET.
