Jason’s Journey: Getting Around

JasonJourneylogo400x300As I aspire to work in the NASCAR media world someday, I’m spending time working on skills that could come in handy at the track someday. What could be most important at a race track every weekend? The race, interviews? How about knowing my way around the facility? I classify that as a very important skill and one that I can practice now.

With Watkins Glen coming up in a few weeks, I revert back to the same pre-race weekend rundown that I’ve been doing since I first went there in 2009. Checking out the track maps, seeing where all the action will take place during race weekend, and of course, finding loop holes to get myself an all-access experience.

Out of all the tracks I’ve visited, The Glen seems to have the most helpful information. Whether it’s on social media or on their website, fans can find everything needed for a great track experience. Another tool unveiled last season, is a track app and that comes in handy as well.

So, how does all that help with my goal of becoming a reporter someday? If I am fortunate enough to live my dream, I will be going to the track for the first time as a media member and have a leg up on all the other first timers. With experience, I’ll know my way around all weekend and where to go to get what I need. That is priceless experience that could pay off one day.

All of this is hard work will pay off down the road. Putting in the effort now, for what I want later, is time well spent. Getting the coördinates of Watkins Glen figured out now, will save time down the road. Time is ever so vital in a fast-paced media world.
