There’s more to NASCAR, XFINITY Series driver Joey Gase than meets the eye as he has an inspirational message to share wherever he goes. He shares that message on his race car every week that he’s behind the wheel, and when he’s not behind the wheel he’s in front of groups across the country spreading awareness about the ‘Gift of Life’ through organ donation. So Gase see’s every chance to race, as another chance to not only get his best result, but to carry his message to thousands of people inside and outside the world of racing.
Last weekend, Joey Gase made his first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series start of 2016 with Go Fas Racing at Phoenix International Raceway. It was a last-minute deal that came together for Gase behind the wheel of the No. 32. He made the most of this chance, coming home with his best Sprint Cup finish of 33rd.
Yesterday Gase tweeted his thousands of followers that he has another Sprint Cup Series start on his schedule at Martinsville on April 3rd and for fans this is another chance to cheer for Gase on his up swing by beating his own best performance at the Cup level.
This weekend Gase, and his Jimmy Means Racing team are continuing their hard work with his XFINITY Series effort at Auto Club Speedway. Now 24th in the series’ point standings, they know Gase has the potential to beat his best series’ result of fifth at Talladega’s spring race last year.
Thousands of fans have discovered Gase and now follow his racing career, because of his tireless efforts off the track.
In 2011 when Gase graduated from his Cedar Rapids, Iowa high school, he had lost his beloved mother, Mary Jo to a sudden brain aneurysm in April. At just 18 years of age, Gase made a courageous decision to give the ‘Gift of Life’ through his mother, helping 66 transplant patients anxiously awaiting their prayers answered. For Gase and his sister Ashley, it meant finding a great deal of comfort knowing their mother is still around helping so many continue their lives.
“I think it’s really helped both of us [Joey and sister Ashley] get past all that,” says Gase. “To just know that mom is still living out there in different ways.”
This personal experience ignited a passion within Gase to spread the word to as many as possible about how important organ donations are for thousands of families.
Off the track and now at the age of 24, Gase has visited hundreds of hospitals and organ donor events to share his story and inspiring others to give the ‘Gift of Life.” Featured as a member of the Donate Life float in the Festival of Roses Parade, Gase has also been featured on ESPN many times and has appeared several times in local television, radio and newspaper outlets. Last November, Gase earned recognition as Comcast’s inaugural Community Champion of the Year.
On the track Gase carries a photo of his mother and others giving the “Gift of Life’ on his race car every week, making his No. 52 XFINITY Series and No. 32 Sprint Cup car one of the most inspirational and unique on the track.
For thousands of fans, Gase represents so much more than his results on the track, which is why his hard-racing style, humble attitude and willingness to share his story has won him a loyal following at race tracks across the country.
