Every driver has raced at their home track before moving up to compete on a national level touring series. For Munford, Alabama’s Bret Holmes, his home track is Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida.
Racing his No. 23 family-owned team with the ARCA Menard’s Series, which returns to Five Flag Speedways after a 23-year absence, it is a homecoming for the 2016 pro-late-model track champion. Holmes was sixth fastest in the lone practice session and was able to up that to the fifth spot during qualifying based on his knowledge of the track and it’s driving conditions. But while focusing on the car and race, he is also doing some entertaining. As a local driver, Holmes fan base in this area is huge and it shows.
“I think we have the most people here as far as guests too, but
Bret Holmes, Driver of the No. 23 for Bret Holmes Racing in the ARCA Menards Seriesthere’s people that go to school with me, and family and friends and stuff. But I think what makes this place my home track I guess more in terms of ARCA is because we’ve had apast here before and raced here a lot. I think a lot of people in the pit area and even in these local divisions have seen and recognized me, said ‘hey’ to me and everything. Which makes it pretty cool and that’s why I’m happy to be back here.”
Bret Holmes was certainly busy during the fan autograph session but now the focus shifts back to the race itself. He’d love to give back to his fans with a strong performance and a win in Saturday night’s ARCA Pensacola 200 presented by Inspectra Thermal Solutions.
For those that can’t be at the track, watch the ARCA Pensacola 200 on MAVTV at 8 pm ET. Live timing and scoring are also available for registered users at ARCARacing.com
