Ross Chastain is our guest on Fan4Racing NASCAR Weekend Preview at 8:40 pm ET on Thursday, May 16, 2019. Call 929-477-1790 or tweet @Fan4RacingSite with any questions or comments during our LIVE broadcast.
After winning his first NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series race last Friday night at Kansas Speedway, Ross Chastain with Niece Motorsports is anxious to get back in the seat of his No. 45 Chevrolet for the North Carolina Education Lottery 200 at Charlotte Motor Speedway this Friday for a couple of good reasons.
“I’m still on cloud nine after last week,” says Chastain. “This team has worked so hard, so to celebrate a win with them was a dream come true. I’m excited to back on track and compete for another win on Friday.”
Chastain has been the busiest driver in NASCAR this year racing for four different organizations across all of NASCAR’s top-three series and breaking the record for most starts in any season-to-date. In addition, to racing full-time with Niece Motorsports in the Truck Series, Chastain also races for his long-time Xfinity Series team JD Motorsports with Gary Keller along with a part-time ride with Kaulig Racing. In the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Chastain is racing with Premium Motorsports.
That is an accomplishment in itself, but Chastain’s talent on the track came into light last season getting his first victory with Chip Ganassi Racing’s Xfinity Series team during a limited schedule. So last Friday night’s victory was a sort of validation of his talent earning not only his first Truck Series win, but the first series victory for Niece Motorsports as well.
This Friday night Chastain’s Niece Motorsports team is racing to honor K9 Officer Jordan Sheldon of the Mooresville Police Department. Sheldon tragically lost his life protecting his community earlier this month on May 4th. A six-year veteran of the Department, Sheldon graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where he earned a degree in criminal justice. Sheldon joined the Mooresville Police Department in 2013 and in 2015 was appointed to the K-9 unit. Sheldon is remembered not only for his work as a police officer, but for his charisma, kindness, and generosity.
“I’m honored to race this Truck in memory of Officer Jordan Sheldon this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway,” continued Chastain. “Our police officers, first responders and military are the real heroes, so I hope we can make them proud.”
Chastain has three NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series starts at Charlotte Motor Speedway, with the best finish of ninth in 2013.
Pulling double-duty again this weekend, Chastain is racing the Monster Energy Open on Saturday night in hopes of moving on to race their All-Star non-points race later in the night. With all the seat time Chastain has had this season across NASCAR top-three series, expect more victories from this popular and dedicated NASCAR racer.
