Heading into his fifth NASCAR Xfinity Series start with JR Motorsports at Iowa Speedway on Sunday, Zane Smith had confidence and momentum on his side. Including the last time Smith was behind the wheel of the No. 8 at Dover International Speedway on May 4th, the team has three out of four finishes inside the top-ten. Along with Smith’s ninth-place finish at Dover, Ryan Preece earned a top-five at Pocono with a fourth-place finish, and John Hunter Nemechek earned an eighth-place finish at Michigan.
“The No. 8 team has had a lot of momentum on their side from the past few weeks, and I’m very grateful to be able to contribute to that,” said Smith in his preview of the CircuitCity.com 250 at Iowa Speedway. “I have some experience at Iowa Speedway from racing in the ARCA Menards Series, and we ran Richmond earlier this season with really good results. So I know we are capable of getting to the front on Sunday.”
In Smith’s most recent Xfinity Series start for JR Motorsports at Dover, he started sixth before finishing ninth. In five starts for the team this season, Smith now has two top-ten finishes – finishing sixth at Richmond – and one top-five. At Iowa Speedway Smith has two starts at the 0.875-mile oval in the ARCA Menards Series, with his highest finish of fourth coming in 2018.
Taking to twitter after his fifth-place finish in the CircuitCity.com 250 at Iowa Smith was happy with the results.
Top 5 today @iowaspeedway! I hope @taylorcmoyer and all the @JRMotorsports guys and I proved ourselves that we can contend for wins. We made some really good adjustments throughout the race just needed another top lane restart. Had some fun racing up front! Thx @Lapazproducts.
