Abraham Lincoln Serves as Grand Marshal of the EnjoyIllinois.com 225 at Chicagoland Speedway

CLSLogo2Abraham Lincoln, 16th president of the United States, distinguished member of the U.S. House of Representatives and four-time Illinois State Representative will be adding a new title to his list this September. On Friday, Sept. 13, an Abe Lincoln impersonator will serve as the Grand Marshal for the EnjoyIllinois.com 225 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Chicagoland Speedway.

‘Honest Abe’ rose to prominence in the ‘Land of Lincoln,’ where he moved to at age 21 and remained until he was elected president in 1860. The Lincoln Tomb and War Memorial State Historic Site and the Lincoln Home National Historic Site are both located in Springfield, Ill., as well as the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum.

2013 has been a banner year for Lincoln, who also enjoyed the spotlight when his biopic was nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards and actor Daniel Day-Lewis took home an Oscar in the Best Actor category for his portrayal.

“There is a renewed interest in Abraham Lincoln’s life, and nowhere gets you closer than Illinois. This weekend, nowhere gets you closer than Chicagoland Speedway,” said Jen Hoelzle, Deputy Director of the Illinois Office of Tourism. “From Springfield to Alton, New Salem to Chicago, Lincoln’s legacy lives in nearly every corner of the state and we hope race fans are inspired to explore his life and times in Illinois.”

For the third consecutive year, Chicagoland Speedway will host the first race of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup this September – the first of ten ‘playoff’ style NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races in pursuit of the 2013 championship. The EnjoyIllinois.com 225 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will kick off the weekend on Friday, Sept. 13 along with NASCAR Sprint Cup Series qualifying. On Saturday, Sept. 14, the Dollar General 300 powered by Coca-Cola NASCAR Nationwide Series returns with the GEICO 400 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup concluding the weekend on Sunday, Sept. 15.

The Fan Appreciation 200 presented by New Holland will feature the Camping World Truck Series at Iowa Speedway on Sunday, September 8th. Television coverage begins at 1:30pm ET with radio coverage on MRN, Sirius XM channel 90.

Four different drivers under the age of 21 have won Camping World Truck Series races in 2013, including the most recent winner Chase Elliott at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park last weekend. Elliott also made history as the youngest winner in the history of the series at 17 years, nine months and four days. Penalties Issued Following Last Weekend’s Events
NASCARlogoPenalties have been issued to teams in the NASCAR Nationwide and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series following last weekend’s events at Atlanta Motor Speedway and Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, respectively.
In the NASCAR Nationwide Series, the No. 30 and No. 32 teams have been penalized for violating Sections 12-1 (Actions detrimental to stock car racing); 12-4J (Any determination by NASCAR Officials that race equipment used in the event does not conform to the NASCAR rules detailed in Section 20-A of the NASCAR rule book, or has been approved by NASCAR prior to the event); and 20A-12.8.1(B) (Car failed to meet the minimum front car heights). These infractions were all discovered during post-race inspection Aug. 31.
As a result of these violations, crew chiefs Pat Tryson (No. 30 car) and Trent Owens (No. 32 car) have each been fined $10,000. In addition, drivers Nelson Piquet Jr. (No. 30) and Kyle Larson (No. 32) have been docked with the loss of six championship series driver points. Owner Harry Scott Jr. has been docked with the loss of six championship owner points for each of the two cars (No. 30 & No. 32).
In the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, Bryan Berry, crew chief of the No. 6 team, has been fined $2,500 for violating Sections 12-1 and 9-4A (Crew chief assumes responsibility for the actions of his team members) following Sunday’s race at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
Kelly Heaphy, who was with the No. 6 team at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, has been fined $2,500 and denied access to all NASCAR events indefinitely for her involvement in an altercation with a competitor following Sunday’s race.
