Richmond International Raceway and Virginia Tourism Corporation Unveil New Frontstretch Gate

Enormous Entryway Will Welcome Thousands of Visitors to Virginia April 25, 26 & 27
When the Commonwealth of Virginia welcomes tens of thousands of NASCAR fans at Richmond International Raceway, a brand new front door will be ready to swing open April 25, 26, & 27 at America’s Premier Short Track.
Virginia Tourism Corporation and RIR today unveiled the new Virginia is for Lovers Frontstretch Gate, a capital improvement project that has been underway since early this year. When complete for the upcoming race weekend, many fans will enter through Virginia Tourism’s largest front door as they settle in for one of the most exciting spectator sporting events in Virginia.
The love spreads across the Commonwealth, as six Virginia companies played integral roles in developing the new structure:
- · Timmons Group (Henrico County, VA): midway and landscape design
- · Alpine Construction (Richmond, VA): gate installation, concourse painting
- · SJW Concrete (Midlothian, VA): foundation and masonry work
- · Superior Contracting Company (Midlothian, VA): fencing and concrete
- · Absolute Asphalt (Richmond, VA): stamping
- · James River Grounds (Richmond, VA): landscaping
- · Harris Electric (Richmond, VA): electrical
The Virginia is for Lovers Frontstretch Gate includes nine Express Lanes, three dedicated exit lanes prior to the race and a separate Suite entrance. The RIR logo affixed to the top is 24’x8’, and weighs approximately 3,000 pounds.
“One of the first things fans will notice at Richmond International Raceway for the upcoming April 25, 26 and 27 weekend, is this beautiful Virginia is for Lovers Frontstretch Gate,” said RIR President Dennis Bickmeier. “Such a storied and impressive facility deserves a grandiose entryway to welcome the best fans in all of motorsports, and we especially love the fact that so many Virginia-based companies played a role in putting this together.”

The Virginia is for Lovers Frontstretch Gate will open April 25, 26 and 27 when NASCAR returns to Richmond International Raceway for three days of short track action.
Tickets are on sale now for the Toyota Owners 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Richmond International Raceway. Children 12 and younger are admitted free with a ticketed adult in general admission sections on Friday. The weekend begins Thursday, April 25, when the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East returns to RIR for the BLUE OX 100 and Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown presented by FedEx, benefiting the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU. Advance tickets are $25, with children 12 and younger admitted free.
