In the aftermath of the bombings in Boston, NASCAR is asking that teams be on the look out as they roam through the garage for any suspicious activity going forward.

A crew chiefs-only meeting was called Saturday morning at Richmond International Raceway to ask teams to be more aware of activity going on in the pit area. NASCAR is asking teams to be more aware of their surroundings going forward into the season and to report any irregular activity.

NASCAR says they have not heard any threats nor any suspicious activity. The warning to teams comes as a precaution and a concern for safety in major sporting events across the country.

Dave Moody of Godfather Motorsports reported one NASCAR crewman said, “They asked us to keep our eyes open.”

 

“They want us to monitor our garage stalls more closely, to make sure there is nothing there that doesn’t belong. I didn’t get the impression that there was any specific threat,” he said. “It was just a request to stay vigilant.”

NASCAR wants teams on the lookout specifically for odd-looking backpacks and packages in the garage area.

The bombings in Boston killed three people, including an 8-year old boy. There were more than 260 people injured from the terrorist attack.
