RAB Racing and Kenny Wallace came into a familiar Iowa Speedway with high hopes of a good finish and excitement to have U.S. Cellular on board for the first time. Iowa Speedway is a track that Kenny Wallace has an almost perfect lap completion record (99.7%), and three top 10 finishes in five starts.
The No. 29 U.S. Cellular Toyota Camry started off strong on Friday in practice with crew chief and team owner Robby Benton calling the shots from the garage. The team set the third quickest lap time, with the fastest ten lap consecutive lap time average of the entire field. On Saturday, Wallace qualified in 13th place right before the rain began to fall and postponed the DuPont Pioneer 250 until Sunday morning.
There was excitement for the No. 29 Toyota Camry as soon as the green flag dropped, Wallace avoided a multi car crash on lap four, but a tight car relegated the team as far back as 25th place. With good calls in the pits by crew chief and team owner Robby Benton, and the most consistent lap times in the field, Wallace climbed from 25th early in the event to finish in the 13th position.
“I can’t thank RAB Racing, U.S. Cellular, and Robby Benton enough for a good car, and a great day at the races,” said Wallace. This weekend marked the first time partnering with U.S. Cellular and it was a lot of fun to sign autographs and meet the NASCAR fans of Iowa, at the U.S. Cellular display, I can’t wait to have them back in August for the U.S. Cellular 250. We had a really solid car all day, and after the first run just kept improving our position, if this was a longer race who knows where we could have finished.”
The next race for Kenny Wallace and the No. 29 RAB Racing, U.S. Cellular Toyota Camry will be August 3rd at Iowa Speedway.
