Reviewing Dexter Stacey’s New Hampshire Debut

Dexter Stacey and his KH Motorsports Team made their first visit to New Hampshire Motor Speedway this weekend for the NASCAR Nationwide Series CNBC Prime’s The Profit 200. And, with a large group of family and friends in attendance, Stacey ran a solid race and brought the #92 Maddie’s Place Ford home with a 26th-place finish.
For the 13th time this season, Stacey traveled to a Nationwide Series track to compete for the very first time. However, with experienced leadership and a determined driver, the KH Motorsports Team showed that they are a team “on the rise” in the Nationwide Series.
Stacey had two practice sessions on Friday to get familiar with the 1.058-mile track in Loudon, New Hampshire known to racers as “The Magic Mile”.  Turning 26 laps during the first session, Stacey posted a fast lap of 123.566 mph. In the second and final practice prior to qualifying, Stacey ran 39 laps and increased his fastest speed to 124.629 mph.
On Saturday morning, the Native America from Kahnawake, Quebec knew that he had to qualify on speed in order to make the starting grid for the 200-lap race. Stacey responded with his fastest lap of the weekend, 30.453 seconds / 125.071 mph. When the #15 entry driven by Carl Long withdrew after qualifying, Stacey and his Maddie’s Place Ford would start in the 40th position.
New Hampshire Motor Speedway is a relatively flat one-mile track where passing is very difficult. Stacey knew that his quest to race to the front would be difficult, but drove a steady race as he gained positions in the running order. On several occasions, the Nationwide Series rookie did an outstanding job avoiding accidents by other cars on the track and kept the Maddie’s Place Ford progressing in the field. Surviving three wild attempts at a green-white-checker finish, Stacey completed his first NASCAR race at NHMS in the 26th position.
“After starting 40th, we had a good finish with a 26th,” Stacey commented. “It was really exciting to see so many friends and family travel from Quebec to support me. Our team really appreciates all the support and encouragement that we receive, not only this weekend, but all year. It was good to have a solid race for our team and fans.”
Next on the schedule for Stacey and the Maddie’s Place Ford is the STP 300 at Chicagoland Speedway on Sunday, July 21st. The 200 lap / 300 mile event at the Joliet, Illinois track is set for a 3:00 PM ET start on Sunday, with qualifying set for earlier in the day at 11:05 AM ET. The 18th race on the 2013 NASCAR Nationwide Series schedule will be broadcast by ESPN, MRN, and Sirius Channel 90. And, for the first time since racing at Richmond in April, Stacey will be returning to a track where he has competed previously in the Nationwide Series. In 2012, Stacey finished 24th at Chicagoland driving for another Nationwide team.
