This summer has been a really enjoyable one as well as one that has me thinking. Thinking about my future and what would be best for me. Working in NASCAR is my dream and through whatever type of media it is, I will be thankful.
Journalism these days seems, a dying profession. With everything in that world changing as the internet evolves, it doesn’t sound like the safest job to pursue. So it’s so long to ‘aspiring NASCAR journalist’ and hello to a new dream field of public relations.
Public relations or ‘PR’ is very intriguing to me. Being able to spread information among fans is something that a journalist does, but doing it through PR and having relationships with the racing personalities seems more interesting.
During the Watkins Glen and New Hampshire events I attended this summer, I was able to meet and establish a friendship with a PR who works with Michael Waltrip Racing. She is the PR for the ‘MWR Girls.’ While riding on a golf cart with her at New Hampshire, I was able to ask her about the profession and gain some insight on her job. Through that, I became curious about the field and now at the end of summer, it has me interested.
Through dreaming about being a journalist, I wanted to prove my doubts wrong. I knew I wouldn’t stick with that dream and tried as hard as I could to make sure that wouldn’t happen. Turns out, my doubts were right, but my new aspiration is the most stable one yet.
The field of PR is growing as more and more information is wanted by people. Being able to study the profession would still allow me to be able to work in NASCAR, but this seems more fun to be associated within a team.
With three plus years to go until I’m able to officially start working toward my dream, I’ll only learn and grow until that time. My NASCAR dreams will live on, but just in a different scenario. Follow along as I embark with this new journey.
