Cameron Hayley earns his first career K&N Pro Series West Win
It was an exciting finish with Cameron Hayley dueling it out with race leader Derek Thorn after the ninth and last restart of the Toyota/NAPA Auto Parts 150 Saturday night at All American Speedway, and earning his first career NASCAR K&N Pro Series West victory.
The 17-year-old Hayley from Calgary, Alberta, battled Thorn for the last five laps and made an impressive move on the outside to take the lead with four laps remaining to capture his first win in a championship points race.
For Hayley it was a breakthrough victory, in his 32nd career start and after five runner-up finishes.
“It was amazing,” Hayley said of his win. “Our Cabinets by Hayley Ford Fusion was just perfect all night. We really wanted to save tires at the beginning, so that we had stuff at the end and it’s just what we did. We stuck to our game plan and made sure we had stuff left at the end and it paid off.”
The pole-sitter – his fourth Coors Light Pole Award – Derek Thorn held on for second after leading 138 rounds of the 150-lap race.
Hayley, a member of the NASCAR Next driver group, first visited victory lane in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series car in the inaugural non-points UNOH Battle at the Beach on the short track at Daytona International Speedway, in February to start the season.
This win puts Hayley back into second place in the championship standings as he trails Thorn by just 18 points.
