Hauler parade, free NASCAR test session kick off Vegas NASCAR Weekend;

Race start times also set for Kobalt 400, Boyd Gaming 300

The annual parade of haulers down the world-famous Las Vegas Strip and a free day of NASCAR Sprint Cup testing will kick off the annual NASCAR Weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway beginning Wednesday, March 5.

The hauler parade will start at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5 on the south end of the Strip. It will proceed north to Sahara Avenue before heading north on Interstate 15 to the speedway. On Thursday, the NASCAR Sprint Cup teams will be testing the new rules package from noon to 4 p.m. The grandstands and Neon Garage will be open for free to all race fans. Continue reading

Making his first start of the 2014 season, Jeff Burton is racing at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

Jeff Burton is back for the Sprint Cup Series Kobalt 400 on Sunday, March 9th.  And for Burton fans that means all is right with their NASCAR world – if only for one race – for now.

Sharing his No. 66, Michael Waltrip Racing ride with the owner, Michael Waltrip and Joe Nemechek, Burton is looking forward to getting back behind the wheel and on the track.  Continue reading

David Gilliland Hikes Grand Canyon en Route to Las Vegas

David Gilliland is taking a detour – on foot – on his way to Las Vegas Motor Speedway this week. The driver of the No. 38 Front Row Motorsports Ford will be part of a group hiking more than 20 miles of trails through the Grand Canyon Tuesday and Wednesday.

Gilliland purchased about 40 pounds of gear to carry on the hike, a trip where he will sleep in a sleeping bag and tent on the canyon floor.

 

DavidGilliland“Even though I grew up out west, I’ve never seen the Grand Canyon and I’ve always wanted to. This way I’ll be able to see it all at once. It’s going to be hard.  I’ve done three smaller hikes before but nothing like this. I’m going to have a yellow (rookie) stripe on my backpack for sure.

“We’re going down the hardest trail, too.  It’s about eight and a half miles in, and then we have a 13-and-a-half-mile hike out. I’m going to be wishing that Love’s Travel Stops had a store on the bottom of the Grand Canyon.”

 

UPDATE: David Gilliland tweeted that he has completed his Grand Canyon hike and is now on his way to Las Vegas to race this weekend. What did he say about his journey?

“Just made it out of the Grand Canyon! Hardest/coolest thing I’ve done!!! Wow.”

Scenic Tour Kicks Off in Carlsbad, CA, Concludes in Daytona Beach, FL.

The Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America announced today the course for its 20thAnniversary Ride. From Saturday, May 3 through Saturday, May 10, 2014, more than 175 riders will embark on the cross-country motorcycle trek, which begins in Carlsbad, Calif. and travel more than 2,800 miles before reaching Daytona Beach, Fla. Founded by former NASCAR driver and racing analyst Kyle Petty, the Ride raises funds and awareness for Victory Junction, a Camp created to enrich the lives of children with chronic or life threatening illnesses.  Continue reading
