Jeff Gordon’s No. 24 is adding Texas A&M University to list of Collegiate paint schemes in NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series

On April 6, 2014 at Texas Motor Speedway four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion, Jeff Gordon’s No. 24 Chevrolet is featuring a Texas A&M University paint scheme. On Thursday, there is an unveiling of Gordon’s No. 24 collegiate paint scheme at Texas A&M campus.

The Texas A&M Yell Leaders, the Texas Aggie Dance Team, Reveille, and the members of the 12th Man Pit Crew, a group of 28 engineering students are attending the April 6 race, and are also taking part in the unveiling event. Also on campus is Texas A&M former student and Chairman and CEO of Axalta Coating Systems, Charles Shaver, who is providing the Aggie-themed car to Texas A&M at no cost to the university.

The No. 24 is, of course, not the first to sport a collegiate paint scheme in NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series. Since 2011, there have been at least eight college paint schemes run in the Sprint Cup Series. Of those, only the No. 1 Chevrolet of Jamie McMurray – with the colors and logo of Auburn University – won the corresponding race (Talladega
Superspeedway – Oct. 2013).
