Montoursville, PA native Blaise Alexander enjoyed some success in ARCA,finishing runner-up four times from 1995 to May 1999. Alexander was looking to get the money off his back and find victory lane in 1999. He once again finished runner-up at Michigan in June to David Keith.
ARCA headed to Toledo Speedway two weeks later for a Friday night short-track showdown. Bill Baird won two of the season’s first three races and was the points leader.
Baird won the pole for the race and his car was dominant, leading the first 71 laps. Alexander found himself in front for the next 20 circuits. Baird wouldn’t go down without a fight, regaining the top spot on lap 92.
The race would come down between the two. Alexander passed the points leader for the last time on lap 112 and drove to his first ARCA win in his 53rd series start.
Baird came home second, with Bob Schacht, Andy Belmont and Mark Gibson rounding out the top-five.
