On the Fourth of July, it was only fitting that the Subway Firecracker 250 featured fireworks at the finish. An intense last two laps allowed many players to emerge in the quest for victory. Once the checkered flag flew, it was JR Motorsports sweeping the top two spots as Kasey Kahne claimed victory. He barely edged out teammate Regan Smith who was strongest throughout the night. IndyCar always made an annual stop to the 2.5 mile Pocono Raceway from 1971 to 1989. The series and Pocono decided to split after the 1989 race and it wouldn’t be until 2013 when IndyCar made a return to the Tricky Triangle.
With many differences today at Pocono vs. 1989, Marco Andretti set the current IndyCar track qualifying record with a two-lap average of 221.273-mph last July. Emerson Fittipaldi set the previous track record at 211.715-mph, before the track was re-paved twice in 1995 and 2012. Continue reading
The first half of the 1994 Winston Cup season the black cars dominated. Rusty Wallace, Dale Earnhardt and Ernie Irvan together had 11 wins in the season’s first 14 races.
Wallace was on a three-race winning streak heading into the Pepsi 400 at Daytona International Speedway. The Missouri driver’s luck at the track has been short of disastrous. Continue reading
The Verizon IndyCar Series returns to the 2.5 mile Pocono Raceway for the second straight year this weekend. After not racing on the Tricky Triangle since 1989, IndyCar made its return last July with Chip Ganassi Racing’s (CGR) Scott Dixon picking up the win and leading a 1-2-3 finish for CGR.
Andretti Autosport driver Marco Andretti shattered the track qualifying record with a two-lap average of 221.273 mph. Andretti dominated the Pocono IndyCar 400 before fuel issues relegated him to a tenth-place finish and hopes for a better result in Sunday’s race. Continue reading
