Joe Gibbs Racing Announces a New Sponsor ARRIS and launches a Diversity Initiative by Escuderia TELMEX
After hearing the rumors for months, Joe Gibbs Racing made it official today that Carl Edwards is joining their full-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stable of drivers for the 2015 season. Also for next season, they are adding Daniel Suarez to their organization with a full-time ride in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.
ARRIS Group, Inc will sponsor Carl Edwards in the No 19 Toyota Camry for 17 races with JGR expanding its operations to include a fourth team. ARRIS is also supporting Suarez in a multi-year program, in the Nationwide Series, and a partial schedule in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series for the 2015 season.
JGR is also launching a diversity initiative with Escuderia TELMEX with support from ARRIS to give developmental opportunities to deserving Mexican and Latin American candidates in the NASCAR Toyota Series in Mexico and other racing series under the JGR umbrella.
“This is one of the biggest days in Joe Gibbs Racing’s history,” said Joe Gibbs, founder and owner of Joe Gibbs Racing. “To be able to bring a driver the caliber of Carl Edwards on board to launch our fourth team is just a thrill. But we also have the opportunity to announce a new partner in ARRIS that will not only sponsor Carl, but also share a vision with Carlos Slim Domit and Escuderia TELMEX to develop Mexican and Latin American drivers in NASCAR. We are excited to have Daniel Suarez as part of that program and look forward to watching his development in the NASCAR Nationwide Series next season.”
Edwards has an impressive resume he brings to Joe Gibbs Racing and is eighth in the Sprint Cup Series point standings with two wins, five top-five and nine top-ten finishes so far this season. His career stats are also stellar over his 11 years, with 23 wins, 106 top-fives and 182 top-ten finishes. Edwards also has 38 wins in the Nationwide Series along with a series’ championship in 2007. His highest Sprint Cup Series points standing was in 2011 when he was runner-up to Tony Stewart based on a tie-breaker.
Suarez is competing full-time for Escuderia TELMEX in the NASCAR Mexico Toyota Series, where he leads that series. He also competes in the NASCAR Drive for Diversity Rev Racing Team in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East. Suarez has four wins and six top-five finishes in ten starts in the Toyota Mexico Series and has added two twins, four top-five and seven top-ten finishes this season in 12 K&N East starts. Suarez made his Nationwide Series début with JGR earlier this season at Richmond International Raceway with a 19th-place finish.
“Having the opportunity to run full-time in the NASCAR Nationwide Series with Joe Gibbs Racing is like a dream come true,” said Suarez. “Everyone knows how successful they have been in the Nationwide Series and I can’t thank ARRIS enough for supporting me next season. It’s also exciting to be part of this initiative with Carlos because I know his passion for racing and his desire to provide opportunities to others like me.”
