Making his second track début of the 2015 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season, Rookie of the Year contender, Cameron Hayley continues to impress in just his fifth start in the series at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Saturday evening. On Friday, he was the fastest ThorSport Racing driver – 3rd (31.06 seconds) – in the only series practice session and then again in qualifying – 3rd (30.89 seconds) – on Saturday morning.
In the Hyundai Construction Equipment 200, Hayley worked with his crew chief Jeff Hensley as he battled his Toyota Tundra that was “loose in both corners.” The Cabinets by Hayley No. 13 came to pit road three times – laps 19, 51 and 98 – for four tires and fuel. Throughout the 130-lap event, Hayley was able to keep up his position – an average running position of 12.3 – inside the top-15 and crossed the finish line as the 14th driver behind his teammate and race winner, Matt Crafton.
“It was a really tough night for me and this entire No. 13 ThorSport Racing team.” said 18-year-old Cameron Hayley. “We just fought the handling in our Toyota Tundra, and it multiplied it by 100 on a worn out track like Atlanta. I got a ton better on my pit stops and learned a lot about the truck in traffic. There is a lot to learn before my next mile-and-a-half track.”
Moving up three spots in the series’ point standings, Hayley now sits 15th, a mere 36 points behind the points leader, Tyler Reddick.
Rounding out the top-five finishers were Ty Dillon (second), Ben Kennedy (third), Daniel Suarez (fourth), and Tyler Reddick (fifth).he Kroger 250 at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway on Saturday, March 28th.
