Making his début in Saturday’s Boyd Gaming 300 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Brennan Poole came home with his H Scott Motorsports team with a hard-fought top-ten finish. He started 16th after advancing through qualifying rounds to set up the running order. On Saturday, the highlight of the 200-lap event, were several long green flag runs, meaning there were fewer pit stops and fewer chances to adjust the car. Poole’s early reports were that the car was getting loose with each passing lap. Past halfway, Poole’s crew made adjustments to the car, changing it from loose to tight. There were only six cautions for 34 laps in the race.
The race leader set a fast pace, putting Poole two laps down, but well-timed cautions helped get him back on the lead lap. Poole ran a race-high sixth with less than 50 laps remaining and was able to stay in the top-ten, finishing ninth, making him the second highest finishing rookie of the race.
“I first have to thank Mike (Shiplett) and all the guys on the DC Solar team who made me comfortable and didn’t give up trying to make our car better. For much of practice, qualifying and early in the race we fought a loose car. Prior to our second pit stop, our car was way too loose, so we made changes and the handling improved tremendously. To finish ninth in my first start is a tremendous accomplishment and I am looking forward to my next race at Phoenix International Raceway (PIR) next week.”
The XFINITY Series continues their west coast swing to Phoenix International Raceway this weekend. Catch practice Friday at 4:30 pm ET on FOX Sports 1 and 6 pm ET on FOX Sports 2. Qualifying takes place on Saturday at 12:30 pm on FOX Sports 1. The Axalta 200 is March 14 at 4 pm ET on FOX.
