Making his mark in the Camping World Truck Series, Erik Jones has set his sights on getting back into victory lane. Despite being unable to find victory lane this year, Jones has four top-three finishes and leads the Camping World Truck Series in several stats, including: average running position (3.2), average start (3.2), number of fastest laps (239), laps led (328) and driver rating (125.6). Jones has dominated too many races this season, that have come up short at the finish and he wants that to change.
In addition to his Camping World Truck Series winless streak this season, Erik Jones has some unfinished business in St Louis. This weekend at Gateway Motorsports Park, gives him a chance to even the score.
With just seven laps to go and leading the first-ever NASCAR™ Camping World Truck Series American Ethanol presents Drivin’ for Linemen 200 brought to you by Ameren at Gateway Motorsports Park, Erik Jones’ quest to win in 2014 was abruptly ended with a hit by German Quiroga that took both drivers out of the running.
Jones was visibly upset after wrecking hard and the two teams got into a big brawl in the pits. The event made for great racing and post-race drama, but now Jones is ready for to get down to business by winning at Gateway Motorsports Park on Saturday.
Erik Jones is setting himself apart from the rest in the youth movement of NASCAR.
In November 2013 at Phoenix International Raceway Jones became the youngest winner in Camping World Truck Series history
Jones entered the 2015 season competing full-time in the NASCAR™ Camping World Truck Series for Kyle Busch Motorsports and part-time in the NASCAR™ XFINITY Series for Joe Gibbs Racing. In Charlotte, Jones was on standby for Sprint Cup Series driver Kyle Busch if he couldn’t run the entire 600 lap race. In the Camping World Truck Series, Jones is now third in the point standings behind leader Matt Crafton and second-place Tyler Reddick. Jones is also the front-runner in the Sunoco Rookie of the Year race.
Earlier this season, Jones became the first driver in NASCAR™ national series history to win five national series races before the age of 19. The historic XFINITY Series win at Texas breaks his tie with Chase Elliott of four wins for the most national series wins by a driver under the age of 19.
In fact, there have only been 14 races won by drivers under the age of 18 — and Jones now has 35% of those victories.
Jones’ win at Texas was the fifth of his NASCAR™ national series career but just the first in the NASCAR™ XFINITY Series and driving for Joe Gibbs Racing. Jones also has posted four wins in the NASCAR™ Camping World Truck Series driving for Kyle Busch Motorsports.
