Columbus Motor Speedway on Saturday night saw a still hungry Dalton Sargeant left out of victory lane, although he was still able to collect a top-ten en route of his title goal. The Boca Raton, FL native has finished no lower than seventh in his last four events which has put him back into the championship hunt.
“Everyone on the No. 51 GALT HScott Motorsports with Justin Marks team is really looking forward to Columbus Motor Speedway,” said Sargeant heading into the event. “As we’ve progressed throughout the season, we’re getting closer and closer to picking up that first K&N East win, and our flat-track program continues to make some really big gains. Columbus is a really tough racetrack; we tested there a few weeks ago and actually struggled for speed. However, I’m confident we’ll get that turned around this weekend, and I hope we can continue our top-three streak.”
Although Sargeant was not able to continue his top-three streak, he was able to move from sixth to fifth in the series standings and gain points on leader and teammate William Byron this weekend which he has to consider as successful. Sargeant now sits 30 points behind Byron but remains optimistic.
Sargeant’s career has taken many defining steps this season with winning at Irwindale in the NASCAR K&N West event, as well as being inducted into the NASCAR Next program. He boasts an average finish of 2.0 in the K&N West as well as an 8.0 finish in the K&N East.
The NASCAR next program is a very prestigious accolade for Sargeant who cement’s his name with other future young stars of NASCAR.
“I’m very excited to be asked to join the NASCAR next program,’ said Sargeant. “It’s a great opportunity for young drivers like myself. It’s going to be a fun year, I’m going to learn quite a bit and I know that it’s going to help me improve on the track as well as off the track. “
Sargeant will be back on the track at New Hampshire Motor Speedway for the K&N East race on July 17th in search of his first victory of the season. He also will be running two late-model races at Five Flags and Mobile International Speedway on July 24th and 25th. Being the talent that he is, Sargeant is one of the rising stars of NASCAR and it’s been a pleasure seeing his 2015 season progress.
