In his track début at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in the UNOH 175, the 500th race of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, Spencer Gallagher and his No. 23 GMS Racing team ran into some rear gear issues that ended their day with a 28th-place finish.
Earlier in the day, Gallagher posted the second fastest lap in the last practice, then qualified to start the race from the seventh position. From the drop of the green flag, Gallagher fought an extremely tight balance in the center and exit off the flat corners of New Hampshire Motor Speedway. After making aggressive adjustments, the No. 23 returned to the track to begin his work back toward the top-15, with improved balance on his car.
On lap 99, Gallagher reported that he lost all drive, which brought him to the garage for repairs. Fortunately, his team was ready and were able to replace the rear gear quickly. Despite issues throughout the race Gallagher was able to stay ninth in the series point standings.
”Our Allegiant Travel team really showed what they’re made of this weekend,” said Gallagher. “We constantly improved the balance throughout practice, and definitely made gains during the race. It was unfortunate to have the rear gear issue, because with all the attrition, and the way we were improving our Silverado, we would have had a great opportunity to get another top-ten finish.”
A native of Las Vegas, Nevada, Gallagher, looks to rebound at his home track of Las Vegas Motor Speedway next weekend. Sponsor Allegiant Travel is also based in the Las Vegas area, so Gallagher will have plenty of family and friends on hand to cheer.
Seeing the bigger picture, Gallagher is happy for his teammate, Austin Dillon, the Camping World Truck Series winner at NHMS.
“Today is about our entire GMS Racing organization. Austin (Dillon) getting our first victory is huge, and really shows what type of team we’ve been able to build this year. I can’t wait to get to Las Vegas and run well out there next weekend.”
Dillon’s win is his first at the New Hampshire track, the first for crew chief Shane Huffmann and the first Camping World Truck Series win for GMS Racing.
