Hailing from Benson, North Carolina, Drew Herring will pilot the No. 24 Toyota in the upcoming NASCAR XFINITY Series, Ollie’s Bargain Outlet 200 at Dover International Speedway. This is Herring’s debut in the successful Young Guns program at JGL Racing and his 16th career start in the XFINITY Series.
The JGL Racing Young Guns program highlights several rising stars in NASCAR and Herring joins Matt Tifft, Corey Lajoie and Brandon McReynolds, taking part in the program with the organization.
“I am really thankful for the opportunity to get behind the wheel of the No. 24 Toyota for JGL Racing,” said Herring. “I look forward to working with everyone in Dover for the first time. Dover is a tough track and things happen fast there. It will be important for us to work well together from the very first lap so we get to know each other well and build a strong relationship. I have had the pleasure of being around the team in the shop and I know they are a hard working group of guys. I am confident we will all work together well and get better with every lap we make in practice, qualifying and the race.”
Herring has 15 starts in the XFINITY Series to his credit which include starting from the pole in two races, one top-five and five top-ten finishes. His best finish of fourth was in 2012 at Kentucky Speedway. In the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, Herring has one start, with another top-ten finish.
“We are excited to add Drew to the JGL Racing organization and The Young Guns program,” added James Whitener, owner of JGL Racing. “While he has limited starts in the Series, he has countless hours of seat time as a test driver. We feel that he is a perfect fit for the Young Guns program and we look forward to having him behind the wheel of our No. 24 Toyota in Dover.”
Racing with several NASCAR teams since 2006, including Baker-Curb Racing, Joe Gibbs Racing, Kyle Busch Motorsports and now JGL Racing. Last year, Herring filled in for XFINITY Series driver Erik Jones, taking the pole for him at Iowa Speedway when Jones was pulling double duty in two series events. Jones went on to a third-place finish at Iowa.
Over the last several years Herring has used his talent as a test driver at Joe Gibbs Racing also supporting their research and development with JGR supplying engines for JGL Racing.
