The ARCA Racing Series has been on a week-long break and Venturini Motorsports driver, Tom Hessert is ready for action at Lucas Oil Raceway in Friday night’s Sioux Chief PowerPEX® 200 presented by Jive at Lucas Oil Raceway.
And there’s good reason, for Hessert’s No 25 Venturini Motorsports team to look forward to this weekend. Lucas Oil Raceway is the second race in the four-race event known as the Bill France Four Crown Championship – a prestigious title that every ARCA driver strives to earn. Heading into the race this weekend Hessert is leading the way with a slim advantage over his teammate Dalton Sargeant and the series’ point leader Chase Briscoe.
The Bill France Four Crown Championship is tough to earn because it features four events, showcasing a diverse track schedule including the first event earlier this season at the New Jersey Motorsports Park road course. The next two events after the short track at Lucas Oil Raceway this Friday, are the DuQoin State Fairgrounds a one-mile dirt track and Chicagoland Speedway an intermediate 1.5-mile track.
After finishing second at the New Jersey road course, Hessert now turns his attention to the Indiana short track looking to extend his lead for a competitive advantage.
“Capturing the Four Crown would be a great accomplishment,” said Hessert. “The championship within a championship is unique and gives us the opportunity to compete at a variety of tracks – all completely different. The diversity of racing disciplines wrapped up in one season is part of what makes the ARCA Series so special.”
Last year at Lucas Oil Raceway, Hessert finished third, but has earned four of his five career series victories on short tracks. Throughout the last four years, Hessert has three top-five and four top-ten finishes at the Indiana track.
For Venturini Motorsports, there’s some history and prestige in their quest to earn the Bill France Four Crown title. Bill Venturini Sr was co-champion, tying Bobby Bowsher for the honor in 1991. Venturini then went on to win his second career ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards championship that same year.
On Friday, July 22nd there are two practice sessions for the Sioux Chief PowerPEX® 200 starting at 1:35 to 2:20 pm ET followed by the last practice session from 3 to 3:45 pm ET. Pole Qualifying takes place at 5:30 pm with pre-race ceremonies and driver introductions starting at 8:30 pm ET. The green flag waves at 9 pm ET.
The ARCA Racing Series, Sioux Chief PowerPEX® 200 television coverage is on FOX Sports 1 with ARCAracing.com also featuring live timing and scoring with a live chat of all on-track activities.
