Grant Enfinger is our guest on Fan4Racing NASCAR Weekend Preview on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at 9 pm ET. Call 929-477-1790 or tweet @Fan4RacingSite or @beberly18 with any questions or comments during our LIVE broadcast.
Cunningham Motorsports has announced that Grant Enfinger will become the ninth driver to take the reins of their No. 22 Ford, when teams pull into the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds on Sunday, September 4. Enfinger, who is the 2015 ARCA Racing Series champion, was the logical choice of co-owners Briggs Cunningham and Kerry Scherer, since Grant is the reigning pole and race winner at the one-mile dirt track in DuQuoin, Illinois.
In 93 ARCA starts, the Fairhope, Alabama native boasts 15 wins, with 2397 laps led in those starts. During 2016, Enfinger has made four NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts, including last weekend’s Careers for Veterans 200 at Michigan International Speedway, where he finished 8th. In Enfinger’s lone ARCA Series start this season, he won the General Tire#AnywhereIsPossible200 at Pocono Raceway in June.
Enfinger stated, “I am really looking forward to getting back behind the wheel of an ARCA car next week. It’s great to know that I’ll be in great equipment… because I will be in Paul Andrews’ car.”
After acknowledging that he will have a fast race car, Enfinger continued by touching on the fact that the Cunningham teams have always been his competition on the track.
“The guys at Cunningham Motorsports have always been competitors on the track, but I definitely think there is a mutual respect there. Those guys have a lot of speed this year. “
Enfinger will be teammates with the current championship leader, Chase Briscoe, who will take a 510 point lead into the final dirt track race of the season. Enfinger, who knows a little bit about championship runs, commented on Briscoe championship chances when he said,
“The Cunningham organization has a great shot at the championship with Chad (Bryant) and Chase (Briscoe) in the No. 77. I also appreciate my bosses at GMS for letting me call in sick from my regular job with my truck team crewing duties to get in a great ride.”
There is something new this year at DuQuoin….the 100 lap General Tire Grabber 100 will take the green flag under the lights. Two practice sessions are scheduled for 1:45-2:15 CST and 2:45-3:15 on Sunday, with Menards Pole Qualifying following at 5:00. The green flag will fly at 8:00, with tape delayed coverage on American Sports Network (ASN). Arcaracing.com will have live timing and scoring for all on-track events.
The General Tire Grabber 100 will be the 3rd of 4 races that make up the prestigious Bill France 4 Crown Award. Cunningham Motorsports won this award last season on the strength of the finishes by Blake Jones and Kyle Weatherman in the No. 22. This season Briscoe is the current leader of this award with a fourth place finish at New Jersey Motorsports Park and a win at Lucas Oil Raceway. The fourth race included in the Bill France 4 Crown Award is the SCOTT 150 at Chicagoland Speedway on September 15.
