ARCA Racing Series 2014 champion, and team owner Mason Mitchell returns to a seat behind the wheel of his No. 98 Karl Chevrolet for 100 laps at Kansas Speedway in the Kansas 150 on Friday night.
As the defending race winner, this event marks Mitchell’s third start of the 2016 season after finishing sixth at DuQuoin and eighth at Iowa. A native of West Des Moines, Iowa, Mitchell has four starts at the 1.5-Mile Kansas track with a victory last year and three top-five finishes.
“Kansas has always meant a lot to me personally,” Mitchell stated. “I made my first 1.5-mile start here in 2012 and really fell in love with the place. In 2014, our team captured the championship here and last year we were fortunate to pick up the win.”
“I’m looking forward to having the support of Karl Chevrolet this weekend at Kansas. They’ve helped our race team a lot the last two years and hopefully we can end up in victory lane for the third time with them on the hood.”
“Every year since the repave in 2012 at Kansas we see the groove widen out more and more. It’s so important at Kansas to have a car that can get through the corners and carry speed. The fans are going to be in for a great race Friday evening.”
As a team owner, Mitchell has seen his organization bring home two victories this season with Gus Dean in his second career start at Talladega and with NASCAR K&N Pro Series East champion, Justin Haley at Illinois State Fairgrounds.
Mitchell will pilot the same chassis that Dean raced at Kentucky Speedway. Chassis 588 has 22 starts since 2016, earning one victory at Winchester in 2015 along with seven top-five and 13 top-ten finishes.
