Since 2008, ARCA Racing Series driver, Tom Hessert III has finished inside the top-ten series point standings every single year – but that may not happen in 2017. This season Hessert is sharing his No. 25 Venturini Motorsports car with newcomer, Raphael Lessard.
Hessert is returning to the track at Talladega Superspeedway this weekend, after taking the pole and finishing fourth in the ARCA season opener at Daytona. Last year, he finished his career best season, second in the series point standings.
Growing up at the race track, Hessert watched his hero and father, Tom II, an exceptionally skilled road racer with three victories in the 24 hours of Daytona, three at Sebring, wins at Watkins Glen and more. The Cherry Hill, NJ youngster developed his own desire to race, following in his father’s footsteps. In 180 ARCA career starts, Hessert III has six victories at DuQoin, Talladega, Iowa, and three at Salem. Overall he’s led 1158 laps in 35 events.
Last month, also known as Distracted Driving Awareness Month, Hessert and his family joined the People Against Distracted Driving (PADD®) at the 5th Annual ‘Nikki Kellenyi Foundation – Walk Against Distracted Driving’ event in southern New Jersey. That started a year-long educational campaign between Musselman’s, Venturini Motorsports and PADD®.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, text messaging creates a crash risk 23 times worse than driving while not distracted. Technology allows us to make phone calls, dictate texts or emails and update social media while driving – all actions that are proven to increase crash risk.
Watch Hessert’s return to ARCA racing at Talladega Superspeedway, Friday, May 5th for the General Tire 200 at 5 pm ET on FOX Sports 1.
