So what did it take for Brian Scott to decide to come back to NASCAR racing?
Apparently, all it took was a phone call from the boss for Scott to return to Richard Childress Racing in the No. 3 this weekend for the XFINITY Series US Cellular 250 at Iowa Speedway.
“I just took a call from the boss,” says Scott. “Richard gave me a call and said, ‘Hey I know you’re retired, but what do you think about doing a couple of races. We’ve got a great sponsor with Daniel Defense, and we have a car if you have any interest.’ And I said absolutely Richard and that was about it.”
Scott has always held out hope that he’d get a call for a couple of races and fortunately, the call from Richard Childress gave him a chance to continue his dream of racing.
“I was always hopeful that I’d have the opportunity to moonlight and do a couple of races,” added Scott. “I still love racing, obviously, that’s why I chased it as a career for 11 years. It’s just for me the family element changed so much and I wanted them to have a different life, instead of coming to the race track every weekend. But obviously, I still love to race and this is a perfect opportunity – a really great schedule to come back and race for Richard. “
For Scott, getting comfortable back behind the wheel of his XFINITY Series car didn’t take long.
He finished tenth in the first practice session at Iowa on Friday afternoon. Qualifying will take place Saturday before the race. Fans can watch the US Cellular 250 at Iowa Speedway on Saturday, July 29th at 3:30 pm ET with coverage on NBC, MRN, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio starting at 3 pm ET.
