Last week, SS Greenlight Racing signed NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver Spencer Boyd and veteran-owned lifestyle brand Grunt Style as their sponsor for the 2018 NASCAR XFINITY Series season. Boyd will drive the No. 76 for the full schedule next year.
“This is the day I’ve been waiting for my whole life,” says Spencer. “I’ve been racing something since I was five years old with the dream of making racing my career. Grunt Style has made my dreams come true.”
Boyd comes from a humble background in St. Louis, MO and moved to the Charlotte, NC area at the age of fourteen to chase his dream of becoming a full-time driver in NASCAR. Now 22, Boyd prides himself in ‘doing it old school’ with a driver establishing sponsorship relationships to get the funding he needs to drive.
“Spencer is part of our family. Over the past year he has proven he has what it takes on and off the track to represent our brand. When he comes to our headquarters, it is like a big family reunion, except we do put him to work,” Grunt Style CEO, Daniel Alarik said. “Our affiliation with NASCAR had been instrumental in the growth of our brand. It has opened many doors for us and we are reaching a huge audience.”
Extending his 2017 relationship with Bobby Dotter, Boyd is returning to SS Green Light Racing with crew chief Jason Miller in their new No. 76 Chevy Camaro. The team chose the new number to celebrate the 1776 birthday of the United States and if fans look closely, they’ll see the number 17 embedded in the number 76 on side of the car.
“He (Spencer) is one of the hardest working drivers I’ve seen,” says Dotter. “He is at the shop every day helping with the cars and making the guys laugh. Our organization is better because the team believes it when he says this is a team sport. We are looking forward to a great 2018 season.”
After racing part-time in 2017, Boyd is looking forward to competing for the XFINITY Series Sunoco Rookie of the Year honors next season.
“We have a lot of work to do between now and Daytona. With the new composite body to hang on the cars and several new tracks ahead of me, there won’t be much rest between the shop, gym, and the simulator this offseason,” reflects Boyd.
Boyd’s commitment to fans and veterans is undeniable with a unique offer going forward.
“I would like to put out there right now that if you are a veteran of our Armed Forces or actively serving, you are welcome to sign your name on my car anytime. The same goes for anyone wearing Grunt Style apparel. You are the reason I race and I am grateful.”
Next up on Boyd’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series schedule is Martinsville Speedway on October 28th at 1 pm ET.
