Kaz Grala is our guest on Fan4Racing NASCAR & Race Talk, Monday, February 26, 2018, at 9 pm ET. Call 929-477-1790 with any questions or comments during our LIVE broadcast.
In his first NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Kaz Grala’s No 24 Ford Mustang with JGL Racing lost power while under caution between the second and third stage, forcing him to make an unscheduled pit stop.
Grala was in 17th-place before the power failure, but the pit stop to repair the car’s battery dropped him back to 36th. To his credit, 19-year-old Grala recovered 13 spots in the last stage of the race to finish 23rd.
“Today was an example of making the best we could out of a bad day,” said Grala. “I was pretty happy with my handling for the entire race; I was on the loose side, but still a lot more stable than most of other guys out there.”
Making the most of a bad situation, Grala took advantage of his seat time to learn and recognizes that despite the battery failure, he remains confident in his team.
“I learned a lot today, even running around under green by myself after we experienced a loss of power between the second and third stages and got off the lead lap,” continued Grala. “Our pit crew did a great job all day and my JGL guys fixed our issue and got us back out there really quickly. I think we could have been at least a top-15 car if we hadn’t that issue, and our lap times were really good at the end of the race.”
And for the Rookie contender, Grala remembers a couple of other important components in racing.
“Despite our result, I still had a lot of fun out there, I really enjoy driving these Xfinity cars. I also had a great time with all of our guests from Marlow’s Tavern this weekend and I hope that we get to work with them again in the future.”
Next up on the Xfinity Series schedule is Las Vegas Motor Speedway on March 3rd with race coverage on FOX Sports 1 at 4 pm ET.
