Bret Holmes has been knocking on the door, and he finally broke through with a victory at Kansas in the ARCA Menards Series on Friday night. After a string of solid runs, Holmes was finally able to celebrate in victory lane after a dominating win on Friday night in the Dawn 150 at Kansas Speedway.
From Munford, Alabama, the 23-year-old driver put his family-owned No. 23 Holmes II Excavation Chevrolet out front for 82 laps to capture the checkered flag by 14.458 seconds ahead of second-place Ryan Repko.

Scoring his first win in 69 starts, Holmes began racing in the series as a 19-year-old in 2016. He finished a career-best third in the point standings last season. This year, Holmes has put together solid runs with five consecutive finishes of seventh or better, including a second and two thirds, since ARCA’s return to racing in June.
“We’ve been working so hard for this,” said Holmes, who had led 42 laps in his career and just 17 before this season. “I’ve been working my whole life for this. My team did this for me. It’s been a long tough road. I just thank my family and my friends. They believed in me when I didn’t.
“It’s tough being the underdog. Tired as hell. I drove my ass off. We’re going to keep our head down and get some more.”
The starting lineup was set by owner’s points putting Riley Herbst on the pole for the start of the Dawn 150 at Kansas. He finished in third-place followed by Corey Heim and Tanner Gray, who overcame a penalty, in fourth and fifth.
