Corey Heim: A Generational Talent by Reid Scearce highlights a milestone moment in the NASCAR Cup Series at Naval Base Coronado
On June 21, 2026, the stock car racing world witnessed a monumental step in the career of young driver Corey Heim. The 23-year-old scored his first-ever NASCAR Cup Series win in just his 13th career start and sixth of the 2026 season.
Corey Heim: A Generational Talent
Heim was able to navigate the twisting, 16-turn Qualcomm circuit at Naval Base Coronado to perfection, besting his championship-leading teammate Tyler Reddick in the process and securing his status not only as a future Cup Series star but also proving that he belongs on the sport’s biggest stage.
From his beginnings in the late model and ARCA Menards Series, Heim has steadily climbed the ranks, largely due to his aggressive yet calculated racing style. The Marietta, Georgia native got his start in local late model before moving on to the ARCA Menards Series, where he tallied nine wins and a runner-up finish in 2021 en route to the championship.
The following year, Heim expanded his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series schedule, competing in 16 races with Kyle Busch Motorsports in the No. 51 Toyota Tundra. He earned two victories and claimed Rookie of the Year honors before repeating the feat in 2023 when he began racing full-time for TRICON Garage behind the wheel of the No. 11 Toyota, capturing three victories.
In 2024, he doubled his Truck Series win total with six victories and finished the season second in the championship standings while also making his first Cup Series starts with Legacy Motor Club and several starts in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series with Sam Hunt Racing.
However, it was in 2025 that Heim truly showed just how dominant he could be. Before the season began, his combination of late-race aggression and technical feedback caught the eye of 23XI Racing co-owner Denny Hamlin. Hamlin and fellow co-owner Michael Jordan quickly moved to bring Heim into the fold as an official Toyota development driver, a role in which he has excelled ever since.
Looking at Heim’s Success
Heim’s four Cup Series starts with 23XI Racing include winning a record-breaking 12 races in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series en route to his first championship, proving that the organization’s faith in him was well placed.

Heim’s Future Success Takes an Unusual Route
With his dominant season, fans found it surprising that Heim was unable to land a full-time ride in any of NASCAR’s three national series in 2026, with Kaden Honeycut replacing him in the TRICON Garage No. 11.
Even though the schedule was unconventional for a generational prospect, Heim received an increased opportunity to develop his skills behind the wheel of a Cup car while still making select starts with TRICON Garage in the Truck Series.
Finally, just one month ago in May, 23XI Racing announced that Corey Heim would drive the No. 35 Toyota Camry full-time in 2027, replacing Riley Herbst.

The Future Comes Quickly
Heim’s win in San Diego was not a fluke victory, nor was it even a result of luck. Heim won among highly decorated road racers like Kyle Larson and Tyler Reddick to secure the inaugural Anduril 250 win. The victory was the first-ever 1-2 sweep for 23XI Racing, with his teammate, Bubba Wallace, finishing second.
Now, with a shortened, part-time 2026 Cup Series schedule already on the books, Heim is free to focus on the future. Even with just six races left on his 2026 partial Cup schedule, Heim’s long-term future in the sport is now fully cemented. There is little doubt that Heim will be a welcome addition to the sport’s top level. Heim will have an opportunity to prove himself in the sport’s top class this year when he returns to action this week at Chicagoland Speedway before making his first trip to Indianapolis Motor Speedway in the Brickyard 400
The transition from a part-time to a full-time Cup Series schedule will challenge Heim. The long and difficult 36-race Cup Series schedule will require a much heavier physical and mental commitment to the sport than he experienced during his time in the lower series. With a Truck Series championship and a Cup Series victory already under his belt before his rookie Cup Series season, Corey Heim has set the bar for the next generation of racing stars.
