10 Years Of The Whelen Southern Modified Tour

The NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour will have a milestone weekend when the 2014 season takes the green flag on Sunday at Caraway Speedway in Sophia, N.C. The Whelen Season Opener 150 will launch the 10th season of competition for the Whelen Southern Modified Tour, which held its inaugural event at Caraway on March 26, 2005. George Brunnhoelzl III is a two-time winner of the Caraway opener, and will look to Sunday’s event as an opportunity to launch a potentially historic fourth consecutive championship season. Cody Coughlin will drive No. 55 JEGS Toyota for Venturini Motorsports in ARCA Series

Joe Gibbs Racing has signed Cody Coughlin to their driver development program.

On the drag racing circuit, the Coughlin family is well-known for collecting a number of NHRA titles and championships. Making his own mark in racing, Cody Coughlin is the first in the family to race ovals and now he’s ready for the next step in an already impressive career. Coughlin earned the JEGS/CRA All-Star Tour Championship in 2013 and 2011 along with taking the Howie Lettow Rookie of the Year honors.  Continue reading

Hauler parade, free NASCAR test session kick off Vegas NASCAR Weekend;

Race start times also set for Kobalt 400, Boyd Gaming 300

The annual parade of haulers down the world-famous Las Vegas Strip and a free day of NASCAR Sprint Cup testing will kick off the annual NASCAR Weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway beginning Wednesday, March 5.

The hauler parade will start at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5 on the south end of the Strip. It will proceed north to Sahara Avenue before heading north on Interstate 15 to the speedway. On Thursday, the NASCAR Sprint Cup teams will be testing the new rules package from noon to 4 p.m. The grandstands and Neon Garage will be open for free to all race fans. Continue reading
