Thousands of fans will make their way to Charlotte Motor Speedway and millions more will tune in during the 10 Greatest Days in Racing, highlighted by the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race and the Coca-Cola 600.

It’s difficult to overstate just how big the 10 Greatest Days in Racing are at Charlotte Motor Speedway, with fans from around the globe tuning in to watch NASCAR’s best battle for up to $2 million at the Sprint All-Star Race and endure the season’s toughest test of man and machine at the Coca-Cola 600.

“In the next two weeks, hundreds of thousands of fans will attend race events at the speedway, enjoy Food Lion Speed Street and visit area race shops and the NASCAR Hall of Fame,” said Marcus Smith, president and general manager of Charlotte Motor Speedway. “The motorsports month of May brings a worldwide spotlight to Charlotte and a high-octane boost to tourism that may be unmatched anywhere in the country.” Continue reading →

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series rookie Ricky Stenhouse Jr. was at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Thursday to get some lessons from the pros on how to lasso his way into the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race next week and compete for up to $2 million in winnings.

Playing off the All-Star Race’s Wild West theme, the Roush Fenway Racing driver got lessons in roping, rode a mechanical bull and tried his hand at barrel racing with instruction from FOX Sports/SPEED TV analyst Jeff Hammond and professional rodeo competitor Taylor Earnhardt. Continue reading →

Fans of NASCAR Nationwide Series driver Travis Pastrana will get an opportunity to be up-close-and-personal with the X Games Champion when the driver of the No. 60 Ford for Roush Fenway Racing visits Darlington Raceway’s Jack Daniel’s Champions’ Club on Friday, May 10.

Pastrana will participate in a 15-minute question and answer session for fans that purchased the Jack Daniel’s Champions’ Club package for the Nationwide Series VFW Sport Clips Help a Hero 200 race. His appearance time is tentatively scheduled for 1:55 p.m. – 2:10 p.m. Continue reading →

Statement from Joie Chitwood III on the missed Economic Development and Job Creation Opportunity for the State of Florida

Daytona_International_Speedway_thumbThe following statement is from Daytona International Speedway President Joie Chitwood III:

“We are clearly disappointed by the outcome last week in the Florida Legislature.  We made a very compelling case for what could have been a successful public / private partnership with the State of Florida to create jobs and generate real economic growth.  We also had substantial local, regional and statewide support.

“However, given this setback to our project, we are forced to reassess the proposed redevelopment and closely examine a number of factors such as its timing, size and scope, before we decide on next steps.”
