That simple statement hardly plumbs the depth of emotion Kyle Busch was feeling after winning Sunday’s Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway.
In the first-ever 1-2 finish in the series by the Busch brothers, Kyle Busch beat Kurt Busch to the finish line by .532 seconds to win for the first time since returning from an 11-race absence because of a broken right leg and left foot sustained in a Feb. 21 accident at Daytona International Speedway. A monster of a performance left Joey Logano in victory lane Saturday afternoon at Dover. Pit strategy filled the air throughout the day and Logano’s turned out to be the winning one. It was another battle of the No.22 car and No.54 car as many Nationwide Series races have been this season and for the second straight week, it was the No.22 car winning the fight.
Logano started on the pole and led until Kyle Busch took over the top spot on lap 19. A Brian Scott spin on lap 26 started the strategy frenzy. Most cars stayed out while some pitted under the yellow, but another caution less than ten laps later brought in most of the cars. Logano pitted under the second caution while Kyle Busch stayed out and remained the leader. Continue reading →
The rest of the season starts Sunday. Race one in the Chase for the Sprint Cup will try to take center stage this weekend as it clearly has not been the talk of the garage. 13 drivers will embark on their championship pursuit and having a good race is integral to winning the title. One slip up at Chicagoland Speedway could cost any driver their hopes for the rest of the Chase. With so much on the line, anything can and will happen.
The GEICO 400 will go green on Sunday, September 15, 2013 at around 2:16 PM ET. Each one of the 267 laps and 400.5 miles will matter in determining who gets a crucial jump on this year’s Chase. Friday night’s Nationwide Series race at Daytona wasn’t a typical Daytona race. Four cautions throughout the event left very few cars off the track. Restrictor plate ace Matt Kenseth navigated his way to the front toward the closing laps and a nice draft from Truck Series regular James Buescher propelled Kenseth to his first Nationwide victory with Joe Gibbs Racing.
