The ‘Ultimate DAYTONA 500 Moment Challenge’ Encourages Fans To Vote On

From Feb. 2 – Feb. 19, NASCAR® is inviting sports fans to visit DaytonaMoments.NASCAR.com to vote for the event they consider the moment that defined the DAYTONA 500. The “Ultimate DAYTONA 500 Moment Challenge” will pit 16 distinct moments in “The Great American Race®” history against one another in a four-round, elimination-style set-up, similar to the new Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup™ format that debuted in 2014. It’s now official, 2015 is Jeff Gordon’s last full-time season in the Sprint Cup Series of NASCAR.  His announcement today, adds significance as the season opener Daytona 500 is exactly one month away. After contending for his fifth championship last year, this is Gordon’s last chance at his ‘drive for five.’

Daytona International Speedway marks the beginning of his closing Sprint Cup Series journey and each race from there to Homestead-Miami gives Gordon the chance to add emphasis to his already legendary legacy.

Emotions ran high at the end of the 56th Annual Daytona 500 as Dale Earnhardt Jr. scored his first victory in the race since 2004. It had been a long ten years since he last won in 2004. The years were filled with plenty of close finishes, but Earnhardt Jr. could never close the deal. That all changed Sunday Night as Earnhardt Jr. held off a storming pack in route to victory lane.
