With the new Gen 6 car in 2013, anything can happen on the race track. We could see things happen that we haven’t seen happen in years. We may also see new and never-before-seen things occur. That’s what makes predicting the upcoming season so fun. Anything could happen, right? So why not throw out the possibility of my three bold predictions coming true? These three bold predictions for this year could create some interesting racing if they were to come true. Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown Returns To Richmond

For the third year in a row, the Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown is set to open the Spring race weekend at Richmond International Raceway. The race, which typically features a dozen NASCAR drivers and celebrities battling on the ¾-mile track with some of the best local Late Model Stock Car drivers, will serve as a fundraiser for the Denny Hamlin Cystic Fibrosis Research Lab at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU. Stenhouse Jr. has Eye on Sprint Cup Championship after Nationwide Success

Ricky Stenhouse Jr, a two-time Nationwide Series champion, won’t be returning to defend his back-to-back championships, to make it three in a row this year. Instead, his Nationwide schedule will be partial, as he shifts his focus to the Sprint Cup series. He will be taking over the #17 at Roush-Fenway Racing, where he will be gunning for both the Rookie of the Year and the Sprint Cup series titles.

Stenhouse Jr is not the first driver and certainly not the last either, to campaign for both Rookie of the Year and the Cup title, as every driver that starts their first full season as a rookie is aiming to win both. The last driver to pull off a more successful rookie year was Denny Hamlin in 2006. Hamlin won Rookie of the Year and nearly succeeded in winning the championship before finishing 3rd in the points.
