Out of all seven seasons I have been a NASCAR fan, 2012 went the fastest. It seems like yesterday it was Daytona 500 weekend and the hype of the new season was at its highest. Brad Keselowski earned his first Sprint Cup championship at Homestead-Miami on Sunday, in only his third full season. He now joins the company of Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Jeff Gordon in winning a Sprint Cup championship within three years or less in a Sprint Cup career. But that is not all he proved to me this year. Sunday’s AdvoCare 500 at Phoenix International Speedway looked to be an exciting race as the championship battle had come down to seven points. The championship contenders were neck and neck all day, until the unthinkable happened.
Once the green flag dropped Sunday, Brad Keselowski and Jimmie Johnson ran within a few positions of each other the entire day. Keselowski had the better car and held the upper hand throughout the day, running all the way into the top-five as Johnson worked himself into the top ten.
