Rebranded Axalta Coating Systems Remains Committed to Hendrick Motorsports and Jeff Gordon

The Carlyle Group, one of the world’s largest and most successful investment firms with a portfolio of businesses that includes Hertz Rental Car, Allison Transmission and Dunkin’ Donuts, announced today that it has acquired DuPont’s paint business. Although the people, products and technologies will remain the same, the paint business, which sponsors the No. 24 Chevrolet of Hendrick Motorsports and driver Jeff Gordon in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, has been rebranded as Axalta Coating Systems. It is hard to imagine that NASCAR‘s most popular driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr., is still looking for sponsorship as the new season is just around the corner, but it’s true. Maybe it’s the economy, ticket sales or the asking price. We may never truly know. But one thing we have learned, finding sponsorship for premier NASCAR teams is as hard as it has ever been.
