A jam-packed Speedweeks featuring racing for everything NASCAR kicks off the 2013 season this weekend at Daytona International Speedway.

Ten days of high-speed activity begin Friday with practice for Saturday night’s Sprint Unlimited, a non-points race for 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Coors Light Pole winners in which the new Gen-6 car will debut. NASCAR always kicks off the racing season with the Sprint Unlimited, formerly the Budweiser Shootout, at Daytona International Speedway the week before the Daytona 500. This year there are 22 drivers eligible for the Sprint Unlimited and 19 drivers are indicated on the entry list.

Drivers eligible for the Sprint Unlimited are those who got at least one pole during the 2012 Sprint Cup series season and past Sprint Unlimited winners. Continue reading

The Shootout Will Miss NASCAR’s Top Stars

The Shootout is going back to the way things use to be come February at Daytona and two of NASCAR’s biggest names will not be there.

In 2013, drivers eligible for the Shootout include pole winners from the 2012 season and past Shootout winners.

Two of the sport’s biggest drivers didn’t make that list. Those drivers include last year’s Sprint Cup champion, Brad Keselowski, and Clint Bowyer. Two of the sports most refreshing and outspoken drivers will be no where to be found on the race track when NASCAR hits the track that Saturday night. Neither driver grabbed a pole in 2012 or has won the Shootout in the past. Continue reading
