NASCAR Issues Penalties after Watkins Glen

Due To Violation Of NASCAR Substance Abuse Policy

Troy Cupples, a crew member in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, has been indefinitely suspended from NASCAR for violating the sanctioning body’s Substance Abuse Policy.

On Aug. 11, Cupples was found to have violated Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing) and 19 (violation of the NASCAR Substance Abuse Policy) of the 2014 NASCAR Rule Book.

One NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Team Receives Penalty;
One Team Receives Warning Following Watkins Glen International Race Weekend

The No. 4 team that competes in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series has been penalized due to a rules infraction committed during the Aug. 10 race at Watkins Glen International.

The infraction is a P3 level penalty and is outlined in Section 12-4.3 of the 2014 rule book:

· A. Violation examples could include but are not limited to:
o 1(c): Unapproved added weight and/or weight affixed improperly (e.g. Unapproved added weight (size and material); unapproved added weight location, but not of a nature rising to a higher numbered penalty.

The infraction violates the following sections in the rule book:

· 12-1: Actions detrimental to stock car racing;
· 20-2.3: Added car weight
o A. Any weight added to the car must be bolted inside the body shell in an approved weight container and in a position acceptable to NASCAR officials
o Added weight must be in block form of not less than five pound blocks (no pellets) and painted white with the car number or team identification permanently legible on it.

As a result of this violation, crew chief Rodney Childers has been fined $25,000.

AJ Allmendinger Grabs a Chase Spot with Thrilling Win at Watkins Glen

Capturing his first career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Victory, AJ Allmendinger held off a hard charging Marcos Ambrose during the closing laps of the Cheez-It™ 355 at The Glen. 

The last road course of the NASCAR Sprint Cup season at The Glen gave AJ Allmendinger and Marcos Ambrose their best chance to qualify for the Chase. They both knew the stakes were high and gave their best effort to secure a win. They bumped each other door-to-door, racing side-by-side through the esses, and amazingly did it without wrecking. To the thrill of fans they ran a clean, hard race before Allmendinger made his last pass in turn six with just over one lap left to run. Every driver’s worst nightmare is now part of Sprint Cup driver Tony Stewart’s real world after a fatal and tragic accident during a Sprint Car race on Saturday night. 

After an on-track fatal incident in a Sprint Car race at Canandaigua Motorsports Park in New York, word hit the social media circuit that the incident was between NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Tony Stewart and Sprint Car driver, Kevin Ward Jr. Stewart was inside his Sprint Car and hit Ward outside of his car on the track while expressing his dissatisfaction with Stewart’s actions leading to his car spinning into the outside wall in the previous lap.
