2015 Sprint Unlimited: Who is In and Who is Out?

Lineup changes allow deeper 2014 point standing drivers to become eligible.  

Kicking off the 2015 Sprint Cup Series Season, the Sprint Unlimited features an expanded field of drivers based on new eligibility outlined by NASCAR earlier this year. On February 14th the 75-lap, non-points race airs on FOX at 8 pm ET as well as on MRN Radio and Sirius XM NASCAR Radio.

A minimum of 25 Sprint Cup drivers are eligible for this year’s Sprint Unlimited. In addition to the 2014 Chase for the Sprint Cup drivers, the field includes 2014 Pole Award winners, former Sprint Unlimited race winners and Daytona 500 pole winners who competed in the series full-time in 2014. The remaining spots go to drivers highest in 2014 Sprint Cup driver championship points, not already eligible. Continue reading

NASCAR’s 2015 Sprint Unlimited Format Set 

Fans To Join Crew Chiefs In Setting Starting Grid 

NASCAR announced today that the season-opening 75-lap Sprint Unlimited at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday, Feb. 14, will be split into two segments. A competition caution at lap 25 will separate the segments in the non-points event, scheduled for an 8:15 p.m. ET start (live on FOX, Motor Racing Network Radio, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio).

New this year, select fans will be paired with each crew chief for a random drawing to determine starting and pit road positions. The drawings will take place on Friday, Feb. 13 at the FDOT Main Stage inside the Sprint FANZONE beginning at 3:30 p.m.  Continue reading

Hamlin Hammers the Throttle on Final Lap to Win Sprint Unlimited

The key to winning Saturday night’s Sprint Unlimited was to survive. Following an eight car wreck in the second segment, the field now was half of how many started the race. The remaining half put on a show that came down to the last few laps. It was Denny Hamlin outlasting the field when he sprinted ahead on the last lap. Hamlin was able to hold his position as his closest challengers, Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano, and Kyle Busch weren’t able to catch up with the dominant Joe Gibbs Racing No. 11 car. Continue reading
